Christmas Island is the planets largest coral atoll sitting in the middle of the pacific only 2 degrees above the equator. The island was named and founded by Capt James Cook on Christmas Eve, 1777.

It is part of the Republic of Kiribati, which is made up of many small Islands in the Pacific Ocean.

The people are very friendly and more than helpful, much of the islands employment comes from the Bonefish guiding, coconut plantations and commercial fishing industries such as Tuna, Lobster, Beech de murre and the collecting of aquarium fish.

A huge weather protected lagoon trapped within the  islands barrier reefs holds miles of shallow flats made of sand and broken coral, these flats offer some of the finest Bonefishing in the world in terms of numbers and average size. The climate conditions are ideal and remain stable the year round.

This is sightfishing heaven, wading through clear knee deep water, having your guide point out tailing or cruising Bonefish is as good as it gets. Anglers average 10-12 fish a day with magical 20 plus days a regular occurrence.

Getting to Christmas Island has never been easier there is a regular weekly service departing both Sydney and Brisbane to the Island via Fiji.

There are several lodges looking after flyfisherman, they are all staffed by local Gilbertese people both house and guiding staff. Many of the guides have been doing so for many years and are very experienced in understanding the specific needs of flyfishers.
