November at Hinchinbrook

November is the begining of summer weather patterns in northern Queensland, it can bring the odd storm and some steamy weather.

It also brings glassed out mornings where long runs to flats often let alone for extended periods are possible.

It is a good month, however tides are limited to fishing only a couple of weeks, one of those weeks it rained, very unseasonal and the other was generally good weather.

Permit were out in force when it was possible to get to them, seemed like a thousand casts, numerous leans/looks, several bites,  on a few occassions hooks missed their mark and also fell out of a couple of fish just after being hooked up and then the one that was snapped off.
Heart breaking but that's Permit fishing...

Golden and Giant Trevally, Giant Herring, Queenfish and Mangrove Jacks have been others to appear whilst hunting on either the sand or mudflats this month.

A fair few Tarpon are more active out on the flats this time of year, staying hooked to them is a challenge but fun all the same. Barramundi are in their closed season so a very quick photo or released in the water is the best idea.

Only really a couple of weeks left of my 2009 season, I have a new boat arriving for my Feb/March Hervey Bay season.

Looking forward to both the new skiff and working with Nat again at Hervey Bay.

Back soon..
